Tell the Truth
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
Shine the light
Let the doubters search ya
Be yourself
Build your own inertia
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
Honesty has always been a good friend to me
Honestly, I tell you just what, just what I see
If you know me, you know it’s my guarantee...
No, I won’t lie, I won’t let you down
Ask anyone that you see around
They’ll tell you where that truth is found—
The real deal is what you’ll get from me.
That’s what you will get from me!
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
Shine the light
Let the doubters search ya
Be yourself
Build your own inertia
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
If you’re my friend, I know that this will never end
If, thick or thin, I’ll know that I can depend, I can depend
On you to defend that the truth will never bend
No we won’t lie, won’t let you down
Ask anyone that you see around
They’ll tell you where the truth is found—
No need to fuss— there’s no fake news with us!
No fake news with us!
If you can trust the
Moon sun stars and sky
Then you can trust that
I will never, I will never
I will Never lie...
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
Shine the light
Let the doubters search ya
Be yourself
Build your own inertia
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
Shine the light
Let the doubters search ya
Be yourself
Build your own inertia
Tell the truth
And the truth can’t hurt ya
In this "post-truth" and "fake-news" era, it seems like no lesson might be more important going forward than, "tell the truth". It's not always easy... especially when relationships are involved. Sometimes it just feels right to tell lies to help the people we love or who are "one of us". But if recent events have taught us anything, they've taught us that "loyalty" at the sacrifice of "truth" is not only hollow... it's what starts wars, incites riots and lifts up false narratives and conspiracy theories. We hope "Tell the Truth" will be an aspiration-setting tune for everyone going forward. That's what it is for us!
Honestly, Tell the Truth was inspired not only by our grandson Fox's birth, but also by one of Nana's favorite artists, Michael Franti. We both completely enjoyed his pre-pandemic concert in Rapid City, SD and that's a big reason "Tell the Truth" has a bit of that reggae feel he does so well... and Papa's best gravelly vocals.
