Reflections on old poems becoming new songs by Scott Simpson

When I first wrote these poems, I was a young husband, a new father, a beginning teacher trying to find his balance in the world. I didn’t think of them as a collection. They were fragments — moments that helped me notice something real and keep from drifting too far away from myself.

Decades later, I opened an old notebook and found them again. They felt familiar, but they also felt like someone else’s words calling out to me. So I listened. I gave them melodies and space to breathe. This album isn’t me looking back with nostalgia; it’s me sitting across the table from that younger man, still learning from him, still loving him enough to collaborate.
