The Dodge Van Fable
One of the themes of the trip was storytelling. I suppose Glady was the
one of our number who took this to heart most frequently.
Glady says,
"My neighbor's Boston Terrier,
wasted to ribs and skin
for being a slave
to his mating instincts.
This neighbor raised pigs," she says,
"the pup would chase and mount,
pant and chase,
and chase and mount
and half of Custer county came
to see the pigs who never fattened up
for running from this shameless pet,
to hear the squeals of protest and at the
point of integration
they'd say, 'Oh my...
oh yes---
there's something
makes a statement
'bout breaking nature's
laws!'
An operation," Glady says, "saved the
neighbor's ham,
restored the Terrier to a healthy,
lazy domesticity,
sent all Custer county searching
barns and fields and pens for signs
that perversion breeds
perversion."
She winks and adds,
"Just another form of rouguing.
But they all came back heavy-hearted,
their beasts in order,
two by two:
bull and heifer, bore and
sow, ram and ewe."
