Warming Myself Beside An Old Wood Stove My
Wife And I Bought Cheap From The Family Of A
Former Student Of Mine
It's not that I ever really
taught her anything;
I only sat beside her,
prodding, blowing carefully
on what I'd found
already glowing
until I could back away...
I am becoming too warm,
and will soon have to move to the
other side of my windows
where the snow is
falling again,
where I can look back through
at this spot beside my fire,
breathe in the cold night
and gain a new perspective
on warmth
Some time ago,
she had to remove herself
and set fresh tracks
in new snow;
she only looked back once or twice before
moving on to search for dry
kindling.
