Poem segment 1
I. The Loop
Once you notice
that meaning can be made,
another fear enters quietly:
what if I only hear myself?
You can build a room
entirely from your own echoes.
A theory polished smooth
by repetition.
A story that explains everything
because it refuses interruption.
Creativity helps this happen.
The same hands
that connect distant things
can also close the circuit.
You begin with curiosity.
Soon every sign confirms
what you already believed.
The painting becomes a mirror.
The prayer becomes performance.
The conversation waits politely
for its turn to speak.
Outside, rain keeps falling
on the hood of a parked car.
A dog pulls against its leash
toward something unseen.
The world continues offering itself.
But certainty
is a door that locks from the inside.
And sometimes the hardest thing
is allowing reality
to arrive uninvited.
