Practicing Gratitude
It doesn’t erase pain.
It won’t make you smile
when grief
has gripped
your ribs.
But it plants something.
A habit
of looking again:
that bird on the wire,
that child’s laugh,
the dinner
someone else made
because you couldn’t.

Say thank you
not because
it fixes everything,
but because
it reminds you
something still holds.
