The One Who Remains Silent
When I Talk
has bright leaves
under his feet, fallen
at least three weeks back
I'd guess by the crunch
he makes, but what's important
is the time frame—
he's willing to let the whole
valley go bare and white,
silent,
without speaking…
it isn't fear or ignorance
it's letting this space
fill up with… empty out with
silence
he knows what needs
speaking, and knows stillness
around words is what gives
meaning its ring— clear and
true and
oscillating in the autumn air
quieting my talk
